I was a little apprehensive when I first decided to visit the Parisian Catacombs with my friends. I have to say that finding myself more than fifty feet underground wasn’t specifically a rejoicing thought - Especially that I would be stuck down there for two km between tight walls … made of real bones and skulls.

However…to be honest, it was actually pretty spectacular after all. As former mines, the catacombs where beautifully transformed into a harbor for all the ancient inhabitants of the capital. And it’s not like the dead bodies are randomly laying all around and rotting away. Each bone is impeccably placed and conserved. In some rooms, I would even dare call it an art composition.

So it’s definitely worth exploring! Even the courageous claustrophobes are guaranteed to like it! And of course there is a limit to the amount of visitors allowed down - so it’s never stuffed or crowded.
